EP 0. How Ritty Began

Hi! I’m Sojeong from Sam-Meows, the team behind Ritty, a cozy life with cats.

I’ve always wanted to share our development progress regularly, but somehow that’s been harder than I expected. So from now on, I’m going to share an update at least once a week. What we worked on this week, what’s coming next, and sometimes a little peek at things still in progress!

For this first post, I thought I’d keep things light and introduce the people making Ritty, and what kind of game it is.

Our company is called Sam-Meows, so you can probably guess that everything we do starts and ends with cats. (At first, I thought, Who names their company Sam-Meows.. but it’s grown on me.)

This whole journey began in 2024, when a friend from high school casually suggested, “What if we made a cat chatbot?” How lovely would it be to have a cat who talks back, and who you can look after like a Tamagotchi? Someone to talk to after a tiring day, someone who’s happy to see you even when nothing special has happened. Doesn’t that sound nice? And why cats, you ask? Well.. cats are cute!

There are five of us working on Ritty now. I handle game design, marketing, and a bit of everything else, while my four teammates work on development, AI servers, 3D art, and UX/UI design. I’ll introduce them one by one in future posts. (You might even see them pop up here themselves!)

Ritty is a cozy life-simulation game where you live with the Ritty cats, space cats who have come from Cat Planet to explore Earth. As you gather resources together and fulfill requests from Cat Planet, more Ritty cats will arrive on Earth to live with you. Along the way, your home gets bigger, and you’ll find more activities to enjoy together.

Of course, chatting with your cats and taking care of them is still at the heart of it all. Talk with them, cook them something delicious, go fishing, and head out together, and before you know it, you’ll be attached! The cats living together might even have the occasional disagreement, so you’ll have to keep an eye on them, won’t you?! Each Ritty cat has their own personality, favorite foods, and tastes, so getting to know someone new is part of the fun.

We’ve been trying all sorts of things with Ritty since 2025. And some of you have been with us since then, for over a year now. To everyone who’s stuck with us!! We’ve only made it this far thanks to you. Thank you so much! I don’t think I’ll ever forget your kindness.

Next week, I’ll bring you a little story about Cat Planet, and why the Ritty cats came to Earth.
